Call for fair referendums on the EU Constitution
Dear Sir, dear Madam
On January 12th the European parliament will vote on the ratification of the EU Constitution, and around 350.000 EUR* of taxpayers’ money will be spent on a celebration of the expected victory of the ‘Yes’ campaign. This is a good example of biased propaganda favouring the ‘yes’ campaign.
We believe that a fair and open debate on the EU Constitution is urgently needed, even in those member states where there will be no referendum.
We have enclosed a short letter to the editor which we would like to have published. It will be sent to about 30 newspapers across the European Union. The letter has been signed by over forty leading figures from fourteen nations, including Members of the European Parliament, national parliaments and representatives of NGOs. These signatories represent a wide range of views from the left to the right of the political spectrum.
We would be glad to answer any questions you might have. If it is possible, please let me know whether you might consider publishing our letter.
Yours faithfully,
THOMAS RUPP

PS. The European ‘No’ Campaign is a cross-party network. We are campaigning against the current draft of the EU Constitution, not against the EU in general.
